As your business grows, the chances are that the cost of sales increases too.  Looking at the best rates for your card terminal probably isn’t high on your list of priorities when your business is packed with customers and you’re finding ways to stay ahead of the competition.

That’s why the BID has partnered with Paymentsense to bring you an exclusive cost saving solution that will also provide peace of mind for you, your staff and customers.

For Cheltenham BID businesses only, Paymentsense is offering.

So far more than 20 BID businesses have taken up the offer, saving hundreds of pounds a year between them. Paul from Pink Vintage said: “The transaction was really smooth. I was attracted to it because there’s no contract and no monthly fees on the terminal rental. The next day settlement is good for me and good for my customers.”

If you would like to find out more about how you can save, please contact James Roberts – Mob: 07848 452990 E: james.roberts@paymentsense.com or Robrert Desmond – Mob: 07883 859840 E: robert.desmond@paymentsense.com quoting CheltBID.

Staff at Cheltenham BID businesses are being offered an exclusive 33% off the cost of monthly season tickets at CitiPark’s John Lewis and Partners car park.

One of the things we get asked most is: ‘Can the BID help with staff parking costs?’ The answer is: ‘Yes we can’.

After talking to a number of parking operators, the BID has now arranged a deal to provide good value parking for employees of BID businesses.

Monthly season tickets will be available at the CitiPark car park on Albion Street at a reduced rate of £60 per month, compared to the standard £90, from Monday 13th January 2020. The fantastic offer means employees at BID businesses can save up to £360 a year on parking.

To take advantage of the offer, the business manager (or nominated deputy) simply has to email the BID with a list of the staff members wanting to take part. This can be amended at any time.

Email info@cheltenhambid.co.uk with the subject line “CitiPark Offer” and we will confirm a code that will entitle staff to buy the tickets at the discounted rate.

Staff also have the option to park for just £5 a day, compared to the normal charge of £14, with a discounted parking permit. Staff are required to visit www.citipark.co/chbid to apply for their permit, which when used at the pay station will automatically apply the discounted rate.

For further information or if your business wants to take advantage of the offer but does not have email access, call Maria Marriott on 01242 571123.

The BID’s other discounted travel schemes were difficult for night-time economy staff to use because of the timings. Cheltenham BID has listened and negotiated discounted parking in Portland Street Car Park from 5pm.

Park all night from 5pm for just £4!

Please get in touch via info@cheltenhambid.co.uk  for more information on how to receive the discount.

The coronavirus pandemic is firstly a health emergency, but secondly an economic emergency.

A large amount of BID levy payers are already utilising online channels to raise awareness, spread positivity, sell, teach and share.

Top tip: Take this time to remind your current online audience why they ‘liked’ you, visited your online-store or ever bought from you in the first place. Try not to branch out to a ‘cold’ audience as they may not be the ‘right’ customer for you and your brand. Need some ideas on creating the right content? Contact maria@cheltenhambid.co.uk.

How to –

*The Guidelines

Up to date – Government business support

Business support, including Government support and grants.

Business continuity –

Pubs and restaurants have been told to close but are allowed to provide takeaways without planning application, relaxation of drivers house rules and relaxation of restrictions of night time deliveries in certain cases. Businesses will be required to tell the local planning authority when the new use begins and ends.

Although the risk is thought to be low, you may want to put in place controls to manage the risk of food packaging possibly being contaminated with coronavirus.  Your customers may also like to know what you are doing to reduce the risk to them.  This guidance does not go in depth into the 4 C’s (cooking, chilling, cross contamination and cleaning/disinfection) and assumes you are already aware of the principles of them to keep food safe. Guidance

Food Safety information

DVSA has suspended MOTs for all heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and public service vehicles (PSVs) for up to 3 months from 21 March 2020. All HGV and PSV vehicles with MOT will be issued with a 3-month certificate of temporary exemption (CTE) until further notice.

At this stage, the plan is to relax these restrictions for 12 months. Whilst the changes are planned and not yet in force, Cheltenham Borough Council are keen to support local businesses in any way that we can and ensure that communities are catered for. So, we do not expect existing pub and restaurant businesses to wait until regulations change to operate as takeaways.

In order to carry out hot food takeaway operations from a pub or restaurant all the Council needs to know for now is:

– The name and address of establishment

– A contact name, email address and phone number

-The proposed start and finish date

The proposed operating hours

These details can be sent to Planning@cheltenham.gov.uk. Queries about these changes can also be sent to this email.

A new gift card has been launched by Cheltenham BID that recipients can spend at a huge range of town centre businesses.

The Cheltenham Gift Card can be spent on almost anything, anytime, anywhere in the town centre.

More than 60 of our businesses have already signed up to accept the card, with shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and clubs all involved.

All will benefit from the fact that whenever anyone buys this card, the money will stay in Cheltenham. With similar schemes elsewhere there is also evidence of additional spend, with cardholders spending more than the card’s value.

Kevan Blackadder, Director of Cheltenham BID, said: “The card is available at any sum from £10 to £500. Customers can use it in one go or in several visits to different businesses over a number of months.

“We’re expecting the cards to become a popular birthday present or a simple way to say thank you for a good turn. We also think they will help take the pain out of Christmas shopping, with all the signed-up businesses benefitting.

“We’re asking larger companies to use the Gift Card to honour long-service achievements or reward excellence. What better way for them to show their support for both Cheltenham and their staff?”

The Cheltenham Gift Card can be bought online at a dedicated website – www.cheltenhamgiftcard.co.uk – or from either the Ultimate Party Shop in Regent Street or Wild Beer in Cambray Place.

Sue Clingan, owner of the Ultimate Party Shop, said: “We are thrilled to have been asked to play such a crucial part in this scheme. Being great believers in promoting the ‘Shop Local’ ideology and encouraging independent businesses and the town centre to thrive, we think this initiative will really succeed at doing both.”

Mat Tilley, manager of Wild Beer, said: “Being one of the first businesses to offer a point-of-sale in the town gives us a great reason for more people to not only visit us, but to also cross-promote the local businesses in Cheltenham.”

Stickers will be displayed in the windows of the businesses that accept the card.

The BID will also promote the card as a great gift for people who live elsewhere but have relatives or friends in Cheltenham. They will be able to go online, order the Cheltenham Gift Card and have it sent to a local address.

It can be used like any debit card and users can check the balance on the card at any time on the website.

Are you a BID business that has not signed up for the card? Go to http://cheltenhamgiftcard.co.uk/get-involved to book a visit from the BID team. We’ll call round and have you set up in five minutes.

Listening to businesses is what we do at the BID.  Some of you have experienced circumstances beyond your control that you think could put you in line for a rates rebate.

You’ve told us how convoluted the process of appeal can be; that it’s difficult to find out how to register for the Check, Challenge, Appeal process and complete the myriad of forms necessary to start the process.

Well not only have we listened, but we’ve started to take action. The BID is working with a professional organisation specialising in helping businesses to find out if they are entitled to make a challenge and the best way to go about it.

Commercial Property Advisors Ltd will make an initial assessment of your property, advise you if there could be savings to be made and guide you through the process. They work on a no win, no fee basis so if you’re not eligible for a rebate or discount, you don’t pay them. The BID has negotiated an exclusive rate for BID businesses who make a successful claim.

Commercial Property Advisors Ltd will be in touch with all the businesses they think could benefit from their services but in the meantime, if you are interested in finding out more please email Belinda at belinda@cheltenhambid.co.uk.
