New Window Installation Set to Transform Cavendish House

Monday September 21, 2026

A major new project is set to bring a fresh visual to one of Cheltenham town centre’s most prominent vacant buildings, with large-scale heritage due to be installed across the windows of Cavendish House.

The installation is in partnership between Cheltenham BID and Canada Life; this will see eye-catching printed vinyl’s (thanks to Sarah at Artworks Design) applied to window spaces along The Promenade and three-quarters of the Regent Street elevation of the landmark building. The work starts on Monday 21st September, and is expected to take around five days to complete.

Earlier this year, Cheltenham Borough Council confirmed that artwork was being developed for the building’s windows while longer-term redevelopment plans continue to be explored. The new displays have been carefully designed by Cheltenham BID and funded by Canada Life, creating what partners describe as a significant enhancement to the town centre environment.

On The Promenade side, the installation will tell the story of Cavendish House’s rich history, from its early years through to the present day, featuring archive photography, historical information and fascinating facts about the building’s role in Cheltenham life. Meanwhile, the Regent Street windows will showcase some of Cheltenham’s most iconic landmarks, celebrating the town’s heritage and distinctive character through imagery and educational content.

QR codes are incorporated into selected panels will invite people to share their own positive memories and stories about Cheltenham, creating an interactive community element to the project.

The displays have been designed to appeal to a wide audience, offering opportunities for visitors to take photographs, residents to reminisce, and younger generations to learn more about the town’s history and landmarks. The vinyl installation is expected to provide an attractive visual feature for residents, businesses and visitors alike, helping to improve the appearance of the building and contribute positively to the overall experience of the town centre.

A spokesperson for the project said:
‘The installation demonstrates what can be achieved when organisation’s work together for the wider benefit of the community. We are always looking for ways to enhance Cheltenham’s public spaces’

The finished transformation is expected to create a more welcoming and engaging streets-cape while adding colour, history and local pride to one of Cheltenham’s most prominent town centre locations.
