Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2024: A Star-Studded Line-Up

Cheltenham Jazz Festival, one of Europe’s biggest and most diverse jazz festivals, is back for another year of world-class music, featuring some of the biggest names in jazz, as well as emerging talent and local acts. The festival runs from May 1 to May 6, 2024, and offers a variety of events, from concerts and workshops to talks and parties.

The festival has announced its full line-up for 2024, with some massive names taking to the stage this year. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Dionne Warwick – The legendary soul and R&B singer, who has sold over 100 million records and won five Grammys, will open the festival on Wednesday, May 1, at the Big Top. Expect to hear her classic hits such as ‘Walk On By’, ‘I Say A Little Prayer’ and ‘That’s What Friends Are For’.
  • Robert Plant – The former Led Zeppelin frontman, who has been hailed as one of the greatest singers of all time, will return to the festival with his new project, Saving Grace, featuring Suzi Dian. The band will perform a mix of blues, gospel and folk songs on Saturday, May 4, at the Big Top.
  • Sophie Ellis-Bextor – The pop star, who rose to fame with her hit ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’, will take to the Big Top on Sunday, May 5, with her new album, ‘Songs From The Kitchen Disco’. The album features covers of songs by Donna Summer, The Pretenders, The Killers and more, as well as her own hits.
  • Gregory Porter – The Grammy-winning jazz and soul singer, who has been praised for his warm and powerful voice, will perform twice under the Big Top during this year’s event. On Saturday, May 4, he will join forces with Blues Hall of Fame inductee Bettye LaVette and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra for a special show. On Monday, May 6, he will headline his own show, featuring songs from his latest album, ‘All Rise’.
  • Ladysmith Black Mambazo – The South African vocal group, who have won five Grammys and collaborated with artists such as Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Dolly Parton, will bring their incredible energy and harmony to the Big Top on Monday, May 6. The group will perform songs from their rich and diverse repertoire, which spans over 60 years of music.

These are just some of the artists who will grace the festival this year. The festival will also feature performances by UB40, Morcheeba, Jack Savoretti, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Courtney Pine, Nubiyan Twist, Orchestra Baobab, Huey Morgan, Clare Teal, Snarky Puppy, Kit Downes, Norma Winstone and many more.

In addition to the main stages at Montpellier Gardens, the festival will also host a vibrant programme of events happening around town, showcasing the best of local and regional talent, as well as some special guests. The ‘… around town’ programme will include free concerts, jam sessions, late-night parties, educational activities and more, at venues such as Montpellier Courtyard, The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum, John Gordons, The Brewery Quarter and The Botanist.
