Welcome back after England’s third National lockdown.
The BID has been very busy behind the scenes as well as out on the streets.
We were approached by the BBC to bring together and suggest some businesses they could interview when they chose Cheltenham for their live outdoor broadcast on April 12. BID Ambassador Phil Cook was on hand all day to help the production team set up and to ensure their visit was enjoyable and safe. Alex Rose, Chair of the BID and Director at Beards said: ‘This was a fantastic opportunity for Cheltenham to show the nation what we have to offer. The fact that the BBC chose to feature our town as the country’s non-essential retailers reopened is testament to how highly Cheltenham is regarded as a retail destination’.
As a follow up, BBC Points West came to film in Cheltenham the following Monday when BID Operations Manager, Belinda Hunt was given the opportunity to showcase the versatility and resilience of Cheltenham’s retail and hospitality sectors. She took the chance to welcome all the new businesses who opened during the lockdown and tell a wide audience about the eclectic mix of independent and national brands choosing Cheltenham as a place to expand their business.
The BID also kept businesses up to date with Government information and good COVID practice including having the opportunity to take on the free workplace testing scheme. Our Back to Business guide was updated for all businesses to utilise. You can find the guide here.
Our Ambassadors who can always been seen on the streets of the town centre and are ‘here to help’ assisted with social distancing and queueing, especially during the first week of businesses reopening, when people were queuing across other businesses doorways.
The BID alerted businesses as soon as the new reopening grant was open for applications and followed up with Cheltenham Borough Council for those who hadn’t received direct notification.
And of course, helped tidy up the town ready to welcome visitors back, liaising with Ubico and businesses.
Look out for our BID in Bloom displays all around town and outside of our businesses this summer.
