Cheltenham’s Hotspot Areas
The Cheltenham “Grot Spot” Initiative has delivered a major step forward in tackling some of the town centre’s most challenging locations.
Funded through an OPCC grant and delivered in partnership with Gloucestershire Constabulary, Cheltenham Borough Council, Ubico, and Ecoclean Environmental. This project involved coordinated responses to issues including anti-social behaviour, environmental crime, retail crime, and drug-related activity.
Led by us, the initiative targeted six priority hotspot locations, with Albion Walk (Boots Alley) as the key focus. This enhanced deep cleaning, improved maintenance, and increased enforcement activity, the project has helped transform these spaces into cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environments.
We worked directly with local businesses, encouraging reporting through systems like Safe DISC and promoting greater awareness of how to prevent and respond to environmental crime.
The six locations have benefited from significant improvements, including graffiti removal, waste clearance, and targeted environmental upgrades. These changes have not only enhanced the appearance of key areas but also boosted business confidence, supported enforcement efforts, and strengthened the partnerships needed to drive long-term change.
