If you love your home, the chances are you’ve been into Lakeland Cheltenham, so you’ll understand why we’ve chosen them as this month’s BID Business of the Month.

With the array of professional cookware, innovative cleaning and storage products, quirky gadgets and essential electrical items, Lakeland has a faithful customer base who come from all over the Cotswolds and beyond, returning time and time again.

Helen White, Store Manager, takes every opportunity to get involved in events around the town. She regularly attends the Prom Traders meetings and frequently brings along a sample of Lakeland’s most recent promotion.

When the BID approached Helen to see if Lakeland could be involved with the Hidden Cheltenham Summer Trail, she immediately began looking at an innovative way to engage the youngsters.  She came up with an idea to get children creative – and a way to get parents shopping.  She said: “The summer trail has been great for us.  Whilst the children make their icing bees, the parents are browsing and buying.  I’m so pleased the BID asked us to be involved.”

The BID is always happy to share Lakeland Cheltenham’s social media posts and they make it very easy for us by tagging us in their posts.  They’re also good at sharing our events on their social media page, linking them with their promotions. Helen always finds a way to make the most of the BID’s events, whether it’s promoting cocktail shakers and glasses during Cheltenham Cocktail Week or bunny shaped cake moulds during the Easter Hidden Trail.

Lakeland Cheltenham accepts the Cheltenham Gift Card and has been featured in some of our promotional material, helping to spread the word and encourage people to #SpendInCheltenham.

As BID Business of the month, Lakeland Cheltenham will have a representative speaker at the next Cheltenham Business Forum event.  We will highlight them across our social media channels, and they will feature on the home page of our website.

The BID has worked with The University of Gloucestershire on some amazing student offers for all Freshers of 2019.

With the help of some fantastic BID businesses, we’ve created a special offer flyer which includes deals from the Health and Beauty, Entertainment, Retail and Food and Drink sectors across the town.

The University are expecting 10,000 Freshers this year and the BID Fresher’s offer flyer will be available to pick up from the Freshers Fair at Park Campus on the 18 September and is valid until September 30.

For all offers and terms and conditions , please see here.

As we begin our fourth year, there are changes ahead for the Board.

In accordance with our Articles of Association, one third of the Directors are required to retire at the first Board Meeting after 1st August 2018, and annually thereafter.  The board members who retire may stand again for election.

At our recent Board meeting, Richard Dare of James of Montpellier, who represents the independent traders; Caroline Edwards from Boots, who represents the national retailers and Councillor Steve Jordan who represents the local authorities all retired. This means there are three vacancies on our Board. One for each of the three sectors: Independent traders; National retailers; Local authority.  We are pleased to say that both Richard and Steve will be standing for election again.

If you represent any of the above sectors and would like the chance to make a real difference and add to what we have already achieved, please contact BID Director, Kevan Blackadder on 01242 571123 or email him at kevan@cheltenhambid.co.uk no later than Friday August 23.

Marketing Cheltenham, a joint initiative between the BID and Cheltenham Borough Council, was established in 2017 to grow Cheltenham’s visitor economy, putting the town back on the tourism map and supporting local economic growth.

A five-year strategy has been developed with the ambition to grow Cheltenham’s visitor economy by five percent year on year.

Over the past few months, Marketing Cheltenham has expanded and now has a team of five professional marketeers whose time is solely dedicated to encouraging more visitors to come to the town, stay longer and return more frequently.

Headed up by David Jackson, the team has a Marketing and PR Executive – Emma Gill; an Events Manager – Jess Goodwin; a Digital Marketing Executive – Lisa Kowalkowski and a Commercial Partnership Manager – Tara Sanchez.

The team launched ‘The Festival Town’ on July 10.  There are currently 25 festivals held in Cheltenham each year, which is what makes Cheltenham stand out from other destinations.

As part of the rebrand, you will see the Visit Cheltenham  website has a fresh, new look. You’ll also see new Festival Town banners and Tourist Information Points around town.

The team want to see a vibrant, everchanging and informative website and are always looking for content.  Have you got something special happening for the summer holidays?  Are you launching a new menu, holding cocktail masterclasses or foodie tasting sessions? What ‘back to school’ offers would you like promoted? Please email Emma Gill at Emma.Gill@marketingcheltenham.co.uk with up to 600 words and a good quality image and your content could appear on Visit Cheltenham – there’s no cost for BID businesses.

Please remember to use the #TheFestivalTown in all your social media posts.
